The Role of Society

Society is a larger reflection of Being. In fact it is an even more clearer reflection of Being than the life and circumstances of any single individual.

The main purpose of society is to facilitate the evolution of individual fragments of Being that make up its body. All of manifestation are expressions of Being, and all of life is a relationship between the fragments that are so expressed. For this reason, societies exist from the very lowest to the very highest levels of Being, and represent various degrees of refinement, union and evolution.

The state of a society is a perfect reflection of its members; a reflection that is greatly amplified in scale. Due to this magnification through number, the reflection of Being at such larger scales is much more perceivable than that of a single individual - and even stark. While it may seem that much of societal order at this time appears largely dysfunctional, it is a strong indication that the denounced attributes may be rooted in some way within the observer as well, who is also one of its members. The very purpose of such reflection is to facilitate this self discovery.

The laws, norms, ideals and customs of a society are instituted to facilitate the expression of Being, and its evolution. Societies provide the canvas where a fragment of Being may paint itself, discover new aspects of itself and re-pattern itself (whether 'good' or 'evil' in human terms). The forces that act on a society are called into action by its collective membership, and facilitates their evolution subject to the Law of Returns. Once a fragment of Being has discovered and expressed all that a given society facilitates, it may then move on to higher pastures.

Societies also evolve, subject to evolutionary pressures, forming newer grounds for the expression of Being. The birthing of a new society is often comparable to that of physical birth, where there is a gestation period, birth pangs and an intense period of labor. And the fledgling society provides a new arena for the expression of Being, while the older one slowly disappears into the mists of time. Societies are a natural and indispensable part of spiritual evolution.
