14. Sea (Part 2)
But this level had to do with more than nutrient supply to higher levels. While there were fewer fish and other animals to be found at these depths, there were much larger species, like the giant squids, great white sharks and the whales that dove down into these deeper layers. This was also the supposed lair of the mysterious animals that formed sailors’ mythological lore across many seas and historical times. These included the leviathan, kraken or the sea serpent, selkies, sirens, mermaids and mermen, and many other sea creatures both curious and fantastic. These conceptual species represented mythological and primitive fears and fascinations that existed within, subconscious complexes that surfaced now and then, which where projected into both inspirations and phobias.
Going down further deep, there was total darkness, and the pressure of the water column became enormously great. Here were to be found the strangest, most bizarre and bestial creatures of the deep, many of whose very visages appeared literally devilish, such as the viperfish and the ogrefish. This was indeed a strange world with creatures unlike anything seen at higher levels. This layer represented the depths of the unconscious, the realm of the primordial and archetypal complexes that existed deep within the human consciousness and also in the collective unconscious of the race. Those who had come in contact with complexes at these levels were often haunted by the nature of emotions they brought about, which could twist the personality into a deranged mentality, exhibiting extreme forms of behavior. To this ocean level ultimately rained down all the refuse and unwanted material from the lighter depths, from mineral, silt and sewage runoffs taken from land by the rivers, biological matter from upper layers, to sunken ships and whale carcasses. The unconscious likewise contained a great accumulation of decayed past experiences accumulated throughout the eons, primarily of an unwanted and negative kind. From there, it influenced the subconscious and conscious levels in subtle ways.
And yet the unconscious held more than strange or terrifying complexes symbolized by these creatures of the deep. These levels were closest to the mantle and thus the core of the earth, the primordial center which represented the body of God from which emanated the evolving consciousness. The heat and the volcanic action at the bottom level warmed the oceans and helped keep their chemical content in balance for life to survive and proliferate on the planet. A process of subduction continuously recycled, albeit slowly, the ocean bed, returning unwanted accumulation into the body of the earth in subduction zones, with new material projected forth in volcanic zones. The sea floor continuously spread. Likewise, the waste and refuse of the deeper layers of the unconscious were also subject to recycling, purification and reprojection through the body of God. And moving from the oceanic crust, through the waters, into the atmosphere and towards the Sun was to be found again the progression through the four elements of earth, water, wind and fire, representing the drive from the physical or the state of existence and pure being, to the emotional, to the mental and to the spiritual realms, the highest level of becoming. The layers from the deep earth to the Sun thus represented a progression from being to becoming and beyond, two opposite ends of the great spectrum of the unfolding manifestation of the Godhead.
The same was reflected even at the planetary level, when moving from Earth which represented physical existence, past Venus which represented love or emotions, and past Mercury which represented mind, to reach the Sun which represented spirit.(1) Between Earth and Venus one crossed the orbit of the moon which too represented the subconscious and the unconscious, much like the depths of the sea. For the effect of the moon on the human consciousness was known well to law enforcement and hospital workers, that of triggering heightened violence, abnormal behavior and even lunacy during full moon and new moon days. Even the very term moon-struck was part of common lore. Thus the association between the moon and the sea had deeper significance, for the subconscious and the deep-seated unconscious represented the remnants of earlier stages of becoming, one which was meant to be transcended for ascension into higher levels. And this ascension meant rising above their influences, past the higher mind into pure spirit.

Aliyah recognized the sea within and directed her energies as best as she could towards taming its uncontrolled nature. Her roiling emotional tempests started mellowing considerably. She was now much more aware and mature, in control of herself and able to resist the pull of wayward emotions. Theo, though harsh at times, had taught her how to exercise and channel her own will into directing the tremendous emotional energy latent within. This was now reflected in her social work with children. Mind, the builder, had reigned in her thoughts and emotions and helped manifest that emotional energy constructively, channeled into practical activities. Her river no longer ran where and how the terrain dictated, and its floodwaters no longer posed a threat to anyone. The dams, the aqueducts and other systems that harnessed the river now spread its vibrant life and energy constructively into a large area. The waters gave of itself to everything that it touched, and life abounded in its wake. All her self-seeking, questions and confusions disappeared. She focused more and more on daily life, fulfilling what she considered her sacred duty to her family, to her society, to her nation, to humanity, and to her God. And her river went forth merrily on its journey to the sea.
Life soon found Aliyah on the beach by the ocean, where the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual met and united in peace and harmony. The sunbleached sands lapped by shimmering waves and caressed by bracing winds ceaselessly called out to humanity for recognition. Here the four elements came together and blended with one another exquisitely, offering a deep reflection of what human beings always sought within. And hearing the great call, they always came by the millions, as numerous as the grains of sand upon the seashore, to bask in peace and tranquility, to swim, to play and to have fun, and to gaze in wonder at the beautiful countenance of the solar orb that bathed them in its glory.
Finally Aliyah had found herself.
