17. Exodus (Part 2)
At first, Theo was shocked. Had Aliyah gone mad? But she appeared quite normal, in fact pleasant, happy, even nonchalant. Her face was very bright, her eyes twinkling and her very countenance was filled with love. His fears quickly dissipated, and he questioned from a rising curiosity.
“Honey, I don’t understand! What has happened to you?”
“Theo, it is nothing miraculous, as you would say. This is as much a physical phenomenon as it is spiritual.”
“Don’t give me that spiritual mumbo jumbo. Are you going mad? I know you’ve been going through some hard times.”
Aliyah laughed, “Let me explain in terms you will understand. You require a proper reasoning for everything, don’t you?!”
“Well, try me! See if you can explain this in a way that makes sense”
“Hmm... What could be more logical than the grand unification?”
“What do you mean the grand unification? You mean unification theories in physics? How are they even related?”
“Theo, both the spiritual and the scientific notions of grand unification are indeed related. It is not difficult to understand the relationship. You know that fundamental science describes everything in terms of principles and energy?”
“Explain that, please.”
“Well, everything that exists, every process that happens, occurs through the working of principles and energy. Principles like the law of gravitation, for example, or those of Newton, or Einstein. Even matter is an expression of principles and energy. But a vital ingredient is missing there, which is consciousness.”
“Oh no! Consciousness is a product of evolution. It is not fundamental.”
“It is both! You see, Theo, your analysis cannot explain the simplest sensations experienced by life forms on the earth. The nature and origin of sensations and feelings, the very experience of pain, pleasure, sight, hearing and others are still a complete mystery. A machine or computer might process signals, but the experience of those signals as sight or hearing is something which it simply would not have. Consciousness is indeed a vital ingredient.”
“And how do you propose that organisms acquire this consciousness?”
“Can you take a hypothesis? Let’s say the body organizes the fine elements of consciousness latent in matter, and pulls them together into higher amalgamated forms of consciousness, in various life forms. It is then this bodily organization, particularly in the brain, that results in more and more intense feelings and sensations in the higher life forms. Doesn’t that make sense?”
“Perhaps,” replied Theo, his brows furrowed. “You are saying that consciousness has to be a fundamental property for this to happen. I find that hard to accept. You cannot prove or disprove it, and therefore it has no scientific value.”
“Even if you do not agree, let’s continue to take it as a hypothesis and see where it takes us. Now if you include this dimension of consciousness, you will see that it is this triad of principles, energy and consciousness that manifest everything, not just principles and energy alone.”
“Honey, I fail to see how that has any relevance in our discussion.”
“But it has! You see, all the principles and energies that we study derive from a single unified principle and energy, which subdivided into a multitude of principles and energies or forces, finally giving rise to the cosmos as we see it today. This is well known to scientists, and that level of energy at which all principles and forces become one is even called the grand unification energy. But try including this missing dimension of consciousness.”
“You are pointing to a unitary trio of principle, energy and consciousness from which everything is derived? Why bring in consciousness when it is not needed for an explanation? It sounds like a creationist version of describing God.”
“But you know what? This truth of the grand unification is ancient, known well before fundamental science even started exploring its own versions.”
“Honey, you are speaking in riddles. I don’t understand you.”
“You see, dear, we are discussing principles, energy and consciousness. Principles are but Truth. Higher energies when they flow are experienced as Bliss. And then there is Consciousness. The Aliyah that you see is an expression of this trio. And so are you, though you are not aware of it. Do you know what this unitary triad of Truth-Consciousness-Bliss(1) stands for?”
Theo’s eyes widened at the realization, for the term she mentioned was familiar to him from ancient religious lore, referring to the Godhead. And he never expected it to emerge from a discussion of science.
“You mean…?” his voice trailed off as he tried to fully grasp the implication of what she had said. Were the two grand unification concepts similar, perhaps even the same?
“Yes! Now you understand!” She smiled, her eyes twinkling.
Theo was silent for a long time. And then he spoke hesitantly, “So…this is it, then? The end of your journey?”
“The end? Oh no, this is not the end! This is but another beginning!”
Her laughter was like tinkling bells.
