The Body

There are those who sometimes wonder: If Divinity is a reality, why is the human body so complex, and also prone to illness and disease? Why not have a simple ball of sentient flesh? Why is the body organized the way it is? A complex mass of nerves, veins, arteries, tissues, bones and organs. And there is the brain, the most complex organ of all. What purpose does such an arrangement serve?

The Principle of Reflection offers a direct answer. The body is a reflection of Being, and it helps meet the prime directive. The more complex the fragment of Being experiencing a body, the more complex the body itself. The organs, patterns and processes that are found in the body are reflections of patterns found in Being. Illness and disease that afflict the body are also reflections of Being: its natures, its choices, its functioning, and its history.

Being evolves, and so does the body. Both spiritual and physical evolution proceed in parallel, and each partake of the other. The result of this evolution is increased complexity of both.

The Body is the great teacher, for it precisely reflects the fragment of Being inhabiting it. It is through the body that Being comes to know various aspects of itself better. All bodily organs have corresponding meanings and attributes in Being. An infirmity in the body is an indication that an aspect of Being needs attention.

Virtually anything that is conceivable using the faculty of imagination is realizable in matter. This is one of the fundamental implications of the Principle of Reflection, and points to great heights achievable through science & technology. In this context, the body is extremely hi-tech - able to gather forth and manifest consciousness latent in matter by way of its complex organization. For matter is but a dense and unconscious manifestation of Being, and the crucible for Life as we know it. When a fragment of Being occupies a living human body, there are thus at least two entities operating and learning from one another - the natural 'emergent' man that disintegrates with the body, and the spirit man.

Finally, the complexity of the body is a reflection of how complex *you* really are. For an exposition on how the body reflects the Godhead (i.e. made in the image of God), see the chapter 'Ovum'.
